It's
nearly 18 months since I first had some titanium samples built
along the same lines as the Swift. After a lot of testing and
consideration of different producers the Pegasus is finally getting
off the ground! I wanted to take the proven and much lauded
Swift geometry and style and create one of the finest 29" wheel
mountain bike frames available.
I
am working with Nevi in Italy as the producer of the frames.
A very highly regarded titanium specialist they produce
the titanium models of many a high end Italian (and other) brand, as
well as under their own marque. They employ a number of unique
production techniques in creating their frames, including use
of an argon filled chamber in which frames are welded to ensure
complete weld penetration and no oxyxgen contamination. Their method
of applying the logo is also unique, not just a stick on decal, they
use a 'bronze photoengraving' process which becomes part of the
frame and looks simply stunning as well as being durable.
Additionally their proximity and scale of operation offer much
greater production flexibility and shorter delivery times than we
would have faced with the Taiwanese producer of the earlier
prototypes. The overall construction quality I believe is on a par
with any high-end titanium frame manufacturer - these truly are some
of the nicest 29er frames in existence.
Geometry
is exactly the same as that of the Swift, with the exception that it
is designed around a shorter fork to better match with current
suspension forks and carbon rigid forks. Detailed
geometry drawings are available on the Pegasus Flickr page (click
the gallery below). There is ample clearance for up to
2.3" tyres and depending on rim you may squeeze in bigger than
that.
Options are
available - whether you might want a straight geared race frame, a
singlespeed, or one that can go either way. Choose from a Phil Wood
half-link eccentric bottom bracket or standard british threaded
68mm bb shell. Brake cable routing only or full gear cable stops.
Should you have ideas for other customisation you desire I'm happy
to discuss possibilities.
Warranty
on these frames will be a limited lifetime against
manufacturing or product defects for the original owner.
Ordering
process will be a little different from the rest of the range.
These will not be held as a stock item but produced to special order
only in very limited runs. I am taking deposits over the course
of November for delivery in early February 2010.
Last
but not least - pricing. The frames will cost £1500 (inc. UK
VAT), with a £500 deposit payable on an order being placed.
