At the end of
January we received a call from mbr magazine, asking us to
guide them on a ride in the area for their Killer Loop series. So we set a
date for our following Wednesday day off, and Oli and I, along with our
friend Dom, took Tom, Paul and Geoff from the magazine out to play in what
turned out to be the first snowy day of the winter.
We were asked to do a route of about
20-30 miles, so rather than just doing the obvious Leith, Holmbury, Pitch
circuit, we headed out over Box Hill, through Norbury Park, and then over
Ranmore Common before finishing off on Holmbury and Leith. The Box Hill
and Ranmore riding can be slippery in the winter, but the tracks we took
are flinty rather than chalky, so rideable all year
round.
The full details of the route are
in the April issue of mbr (out now), or we’ve got special editions of the
Oaktree Routes maps printed with the route on sale in the shop (with a
sneaky short suggestion cut too if you don’t want to tackle the full 28
miles!).

IMPORTANT ROUTE
CORRECTION!
If you’ve got a copy of mbr and are
planning to ride the route, please note that there is a mistake on the map
pull-out. To avoid riding through someone’s garden (where the track
rejoins the road) and for a more interesting end to the ride, take the
route marked in purple
below, rather than the published blue route.
